Endodontics
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry concerning dental pulp and tissues surrounding the roots of a tooth. “Endo” is the Greek word for “Inside” and “Odont” is Greek for “Tooth.” Endodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association.
An Endodontist is a dentist who specializes in saving teeth through Endodontic Treatment, or Root Canal Treatment-procedure involving the soft pulp tissues inside the tooth, the dental pulp. Endodontists become specialists by completing two or three years of residency training in endodontics following dental school. This in-depth training makes them exceptionally prepared to diagnose and treat all conditions relating to dental pulp, ranging from simple to extremely complex root canal procedures. Endodontists are trained in the most advanced techniques and technologies, allowing them to perform root canal treatment more quickly, precisely, and comfortably. Many times, patients are referred to an Endodontist by their dentist if their cases are beyond the scope of the general practice.
